Our school library, with its large windows, antique fireplace and Doric columns, provides a serene and scholarly environment where students can read and research while at school. Whether working on their Strive projects, choosing books during weekly library lesson or spending a study period in the library, our students have many opportunities to benefit from the resources and facilities in this inspiring space. The library is open daily from 8am until 5pm in the evening.
The physical library boasts a collection of over two thousand fiction and non-fiction books that have been especially chosen by the Librarian with the aim of supporting subject learning and nurturing a life-long love of literature. We cater for a variety of learning styles and have an extensive range of dyslexia friendly books.

We know that reading is a fun activity which supports student well-being. Our students love to relax in here while browsing manga, graphic novels and picture books with their friends. Students are encouraged to volunteer in the library as it fosters a sense of ownership of the space.
Every week, students in Years 6 to 9 spend an English lesson in the library. This is dedicated to reading and changing books. Our library lesson programme focuses on broadening our reading by looking at different themes throughout the year and learning how to use the catalogue and e-resources. Author visits are arranged termly to engage our students and bring books to life. We also host illustrators and storytellers throughout the year. We also use a range of schemes and programmes to enrich students’ learning; Authorfy, Book Buzz, shadowing the Carnegie Book awards, and the Royal Society Young Author’s Prize
Technology plays an important role in our library. Our students use ipads to access to our our virtual library which is hosted on the school VLE, Firefly. Here they can access various resources such as e-books and audio books, 24 hours a day. We currently subscribe to Fiction Express, The Day online newspaper and Wheeler’s E-book platform.
