The School Library – Junior School

The recently renovated library at Portland Place School provides a safe, welcoming environment for the younger members of our school to read, relax and do their homework in.  We are open daily from 8am-5pm and host enrichment clubs before school and during lunchtimes.  We have approximately 2,000 books, study space for 25 students as well as access to computers and iPads for learning.

Our Collection

Online Catalogue  –  Browse Our Collection Here

We have a specially chosen range of books that will appeal to younger readers. Our collection comprises of popular YA novels, graphic novels, dyslexia friendly readers and picture books. Additionally, we have a broad non-fiction section that supports the subjects taught in our school.

Reading Lessons

Every junior school student has a weekly library lesson. In this time, students have dedicated reading time and literacy support from their English teacher and a qualified librarian.

Additionally, on Tuesday mornings the librarian visits the classroom to do book talks on the latest fiction. This year we have been looking at The Awesome Book Awards.

Author Visits

We encourage reading for pleasure by hosting regular author events throughout the school year. Recent visitors have included Will Grill, Pete Johnson and Morris Gleitzman.
