Fieldwork Resources
The geography department has recently acquired a large selection of fieldwork and class demonstration resources. Here two pupils are testing our water cycle simulator, which aims to teach about the processes of evaporation, condensation and precipitation to key stage 3 pupils:

Global Catastrophes
On the 14th November, 3 sixth formers accompanied the geography staff attended a lecture on Global Catastrophes (and how to survive them!) given by Professor Bill McGuire at the Natural History Museum. The lecture offered a thought-provoking insight into the wide range of natural hazards affecting our planet, as well as those caused by human activity, such as climate change.

World AIDS Day
In recognition of World AIDS day on 1st December 2005 the Geography Department ran a series of lessons across the lower school. The project began with an assembly by Mr Fossey calling for sympathy and understanding for the plight of the suffering millions. Year 7's responded by creating many excellent posters which highlight the main issues. These are displayed on the new notice boards in PPS. Over the course of 3 lessons Year 9's planned, prepared and acted out role plays and presentations covering the extent of the problem. This highlighted the difference between the global distribution of the illness and the available medicines.

Geography and Moden Languages Expedition to Switzerland
In July 2005, all of year 7 went on an expedition to Switzerland. We stayed in Leysin, in the mountains above Lake Leman. There were excursions to Mont Blanc and Chamonix, the Bex Salt Mines, and a Nestle chocolate factory. Above all though the trip offered a perfect opportunity for pupis to learn about the features of upland glaciation and river valleys. Therefore they will be equipped superbly for work on the physical landscape in Geography this academic year. All the pupils made a real effort to practice their French and learn about Swiss life and culture.
