  Application Procedure
Admission to Portland Place for entry to Years 7 to 10 is through:
           a) an interview with the Headmaster
           b) by written examinations in English and Mathematics, and
           c) by a written examination in Science – for Years 8 to 10 only.

These tests last two hours for Year 7 and two and a half hours for Years 8-10.

Parents wishing to seek entry for their child should book a place for an entrance examination (by letter or telephone) and return a completed application form to us, together with two passport size photographs and an examination fee of £50.00 (please make cheques payable to Portland Place School).

Following receipt, your child will be called for an interview with the Headmaster in advance of the examination taking place. Additionally, your child’s school will be contacted for a reference.

Applications can be made at any time in the school year, but tests are normally taken in the year before entry. In exceptional circumstances it is possible for your child to sit an entrance examination at their existing school.

Sixth Form admission is based on GCSE performance. A minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above is required, with passes in all subjects to be studied at A level. Provisional places are confirmed once GCSE results are known.

Following a successful interview and examination, a formal offer of a place will be made by letter within a week of sitting the tests and interview. The offer of a place is open until the deadline stated in the letter and the place is then confirmed on submission of the enrolment form, together with a deposit of £1,500 before or by the date of the deadline.

Applications for admission for children with special needs are normally made after meeting with the Headmaster. This gives parents the opportunity to discuss their child’s needs in detail. A recent report from a Chartered Educational Psychologist recommending the school is usually required and pupils are expected to sit the entrance examination.

Please contact Imelda Rafter-Phillips on 020 7307 8700 to arrange an interview or an entrance examination.
