Yr 8 Girls are the Westminster Champions: 5 Golds, 2 Silvers, 3 Bronzes and 2 New School Records

Last Tuesday a year 7, 8 and 9 girls’ team travelled to the Westminster Schools Athletics Championships at Battersea Park. This Championship encompassed 12 different schools from both the state and independent sector and our girls performed with distinction against many schools far larger than the mighty Portland Place. There were some fantastic individual performances throughout the day with a total of 8 individual medal winning performances. All our girls performed exceptionally well and their combined efforts resulted in our Yr 8 Girls Team being crowned Westminster Champions and the combined efforts of all the year groups resulted in us finishing 4th overall. Two new School Records were set during the course of the day. The first by Natalie Spencer (Yr 8) who sent the discus out to 17.65m and the second was our Yr 8 girls’ 4 x 100m relay team consisting of Sharon Joseph-Agboli, Joy Crookes, Lucy Humpheryes and Natalie Spencer who smashed the previous record by nearly 6 seconds and ran 57.69seconds. Well done to all who took part!

Year 8 Boys are Westminster Champions 2012: 4 School records Broken and one school record tied at Battersea Park Track.

The PPS boys’ athletics team from year 8, 9 and 10 travelled to Battersea Park for the annual Westminster School championships. It was a fantastic day and the boys put in some impresive performances in some tricky windy and showery conditions. The boys had a great time and represented the school well. Congratulations to Onur Aksinoglu who put the shot 26.50m, Aaron Eyoma who jumped 5.06m in the long jump, who secured new school records in the field. Also in the field Aaron managed to tie the school high jump record with a jump of 1.5m. In the track events Patrick McKeever was the highlight of the championships, with a magnificent 400m run of 60.31seconds to take gold and the new school record. Also on the track, a magnificent team performance in the 4x100m from the year 8 boys of Alex Tessie, Ricardo Fernandez, Jamie Perrett and Michael McKenna who ran 55.59secs which also secured the championship gold medal and a new school record. Well done boys!
