Year 7 Mount Fitchet Trip (5 images)

Year Trip to Mt Fitchet Year 7 visit Mt Fitchet Castle near Stanstead as part of their continuing work on the Medieval period in history. Mt Fitchet can trace its history back to the Iron Age and in 1066 it was attacked by the Normans and a wooden Motte and Bailey castle was erected; with a stone castle being built later in the 12th century. The site has been reconstructed with a wooden tower and fortifications as well as many dwellings associated with a medieval village. Students were able to see how many ordinary people would have lived and how important animals were to their daily life; as well as a chance to examine about military tactics with an impromptu attempt by some students to attack the outer bailey.

Year 11 Trip to Westminster Abbey and Houses of Parliament (7 images)

Year 11 Trip to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament Year 11 visited two historic London landmarks as part of their GCSE course. Two students give their views of the trip. Westminster Abbey, one of Britain's greatest and well-known Protestant churches. Even though it appears small on the inside, it is a place of truly majestic architecture that took hundreds of years to complete. Our tour guide showed us the history of Westminster Abbey through the famous people who are buried there. That includes Elizabeth I, Sir Winston Churchill, Handel and William Shakespeare. It was an interesting experience that taught me that this is one of Britain's greatest treasures. John Sperling I enjoyed the trip to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament because I have never been to either before. I preferred the Houses of Parliament because we got to see how new laws were passed, met the MP of Westminster and got to go through a secret passage. The architecture in both buildings was phenomenal. In Westminster Abbey we got to go to the tomb of Edward the 1st which is normally closed off to the general public. This was an unexpected surprise. They thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the point that they did not want to leave! A massive well done to Joy Crookes who impressed everybody with her drama and French skills, entering the chemist asking for tablets as she had a broken heart. Other students who did particularly well are: Carola Marsella, Natalie Spencer, Ilyas Massaoui, Ricardo Fernandes, Ella Pepovic, Isabella Weintraub, Adam Reeves Well done to all year 8 who made a big effort to speak French! Year 9 Flour Babies Egg Baby Project (18 images)

Year 9 Flour Babies Egg Baby Project On October 14th 2011, Miss Wilson?s English class took up the challenge to take care of a hard-boiled egg all day as if it were their own child. They had to keep it safe and take it with them to all their lessons. If they could not take them to a particular lesson, a suitable baby-sitter had to be found! This project is based on the play Flour Babies that we have been studying, in which a science class of boys have to take care of bags of flour for two weeks in order to learn the responsibilities of bringing up a child. At the end of our day-long project, only four eggs out of ten returned in one piece! Well done to Jordan Akester, Nathan Perlman, Alex Stedman and Edward Trebilcock who proved the best Egg Parents!
